The major aim of NEMOS is to promote the enjoyment of growing orchids.
Meetings are held at the Marwal
Centre, 9 - 11 Marwal Avenue, Balwyn North
(Melways map 46, B3) at 7:30 pm on the 3rd Monday
of each month.
NEXT MEETING: Monday 19 June 2017 - the
Item of the Evening will be Murray Harding presenting The Humble kingianum. The Culture
Corner segment starting at 7:00pm will feature Alan Hope presenting Growing and Flowering Paphiopedilums.
At the end of each meeting members and guests can meet over
tea/coffee and snacks.
Guest Speakers for the evening
are drawn from local, interstate and
international experts, with topics covering
different orchid genera, orchid culture and
housing, orchid travels, judging and new
developments in the world of orchids.
Culture Corner for the newer
growers begins at 7:00pm. This session provides
an introduction to orchids where members can seek
help and advice regarding orchid culture, problem
plants and other matters of interest to orchid
A Sales Table is also available
at most meetings at which members can buy
orchids, and sell
At each meeting there is a Showbench
Competition for Novice, Intermediate and Open growers. Flowering plants
are judged by the OSCOV judging panel and a plant
commentary is often provided. For those who
prefer not to compete there is also a
THE NEMOS NEWS is an excellent
newsletter produced by our Editor, Brian
Milligan. It contains articles on orchids
and their cultivation, matters of common interest
and showbench competition results. It
is mailed monthly to each member.
